Rita and her family are very friendly to everyone, including those that are not part of their family. They treat everyone equally because they believe we should all love each other regardless of our color or social status.
Rita’s mother decided she needs a helping hand with the house chores and a good company for their young lonely daughter Rita because she is the only child. Rita often locks herself in a hidden secret corner in the big house, without anyone knowing about Tity’s existence.
Rita’s mother concluded with her husband to take a young maid. They knew Julie and offered her the job because she is young, and they hope she won’t only be a maid, but someone Rita can always talk to, and trust as a friend whenever she is alone and in their absence.
To encourage this, Julie sleeps in the same room with Rita every day. Everything was fine when Julie just came into the house. She loves cookies like Rita, so they always sit together to enjoy it every evening.
Yet, sometimes Julie behaves strangely. She always wants to have more than Rita. Even in small things like cookies, yet Rita never saw it as greed. She attributed this to Julie’s enormous appetite. She believes she would adjust.
Rita did not reveal the secret of her hidden corner to Julie. And certainly not the secret of Tity, a little purple fairy that always comes to the secret corner every Wednesday. Whenever she does, Tity would tell Rita to make a wish and make it a reality. She has brought Rita lots of gifts in the past, as she loved the humble girl.
However, things changed when Julie saw Tity and Rita talking. Julie threatened to tell everyone about Tity if she doesn’t fulfill her wishes too. So, Tity decided to let her make a wish, although she didn’t want it because she saw the greed in Julie’s heart. However, Tity also has a secret. So she came with an idea to take both Rita and Julie to a magical place where they can choose one special gift.
She convinced Julie they would both learn a valuable lesson at the end of the day. When they got there, the place was dark purple, brilliantly clean and full of gift boxes. Two gifts caught Julie’s attention immediately. One golden box and one diamond box.
“You can choose what you like except that you can’t touch the…” Tity did not have time to finish, as Julie didn’t wait for her to explain before rushing to pick the diamond box.
Wait! Tity tried to stop Julie, but it was too late. Tity said they weren’t meant to take the diamond box, but Julie did not listen. “This is mine” She announced with brute force.
“As you wish…” Tity left her and showed Rita another pack of boxes where Rita chose a wooden box with beautiful carvings.
When they returned home, Rita gave the beautiful wooden box to her mother.
However, Julie hurried out the house toward the forest, where she sat rubbing her hands together with a greedy smile.
When they opened the boxes, Julie, the maid, found only a broom and cleaner while Rita found lots of sweets, different types of cookies, all in abound and delicious for every mouth. She and her family enjoyed it.
Tity appeared to Julie and said: “The diamond box, you declared yours, was my prison. I was bonded to it in forever cleanliness and had to listen to the whims of bad greedy people. In your greed, you have freed me from this prison, while taking this whole burden to be yours forever.” Tity finished, flew away as the purple color came down from her, and stuck to crying Julie’s body.
