Maria answered the question without regard to the competition going on and walked straight down to her class like she did nothing. Two things immediately caused the uproar. The first was how a small girl like Maria could effortlessly provide an answer to what has kept others thinking and hoping for a miracle. The second was the fact that she disrupted the competition and didn't even feel sorry about it. This got the school authority's attention, who decided to call her parents to meet on her intellectual abilities.
On a Thursday morning, Mr. and Mrs. Robert came around to have a closed-door meeting with the school authority. For several reasons, they were more than excited to hear the news about Maria being extra intelligent. In the meeting, the school authority sought their permission to try pushing Maria to see her limit by giving her some difficult high school task. "If she scales through with flying colors, I suggest we promote her and watch her beat the record of geniuses that have walked the surface of this earth." Said Mrs. Vanessa, who believes the test is worth it.
Mr. Robert and his wife agreed with the school authority's opinion to put their girl's intelligence into a test. A date was set apart and a venue for the test. Only teachers, Maria's parents, and the principal school staff would be at the chosen place.
Several difficult questions and promotional exam questions have been set apart for the event. However, a part of Maria's teacher (Anabel) still feels there is more to her ability since she could answer her questions before asking them. Nevertheless, the event turned out to be the best ground to confirm the reality of her imagination.
"Mommy, are they going to hurt me? Why is everyone gathered here because of me?" little Maria asked her mother while also looking at her father with an innocent, angelic face. She appears lovely and breathtaking all the time. This is one reason people find it difficult to shout at her even when she does something strange. "My lovely Maria, no one can hurt you. Daddy and Mummy are here to protect you." Said her mother while calming her down. Her father accompanied her to the stage while others gathered round to witness the event.
Maria sat down with her blue eyeball staring straight into the eyes of the examiner. This is something teacher Anabel has witnessed several times in class while teaching, so she expects something extraordinary. The color of Maria's eyeball is nothing strange to the parents. They are aware it changes at will even though they don't know why. Her mother took her to the hospital for examination twice, but the opticians couldn't detect anything wrong with her. They always tell her mother she is perfect.
The examiner started with the simplest of the questions. A timer was used to detect Maria's response speed, and the results were terrific as Maria didn't fail a single question. The heat started increasing, and the problematic issues began rolling in from across different subjects. Maria kept answering them at top speed. Her speed of response kept growing with the difficulty of the questions. It was like the higher they go, the more she knows what the examiner would ask her.
High school questions started coming in. The agreement was to push Maria's knowledge to grade ten level, which they believe she shouldn't be able to answer, but the situation changed.
Everyone was already blown away by the level of Maria's intelligence. Most of the people there already stood up with their mouths wide open out of amusement regarding her confidence and intellectual level. It was unbelievable how a girl of her age could answer such questions with such speed and confidence.
After asking her several questions, it was finally remaining a single question. It was a mathematical question the examiner believed she shouldn't be able to answer because of its complexity. He was about to ask the question when Maria did something surprising.
She stood up and walked out of the stage. However, before leaving the stage entrance, she turned and looked at the examiner and said, "I am not leaving because I can't answer you, but because you already think I am weird."
It was shocking and unbelievable for everyone except teacher Anabel. She has already concluded within her that there is nothing she could do but accept Maria with her strange behavior because she was just a child with unique skills. Robert grabbed and held his child close with the belief that the heavens have blessed them with a gift they need to cherish for the rest of their lives.
The school authority kept their end of the deal by promoting Maria to grade ten after making her write all the necessary promotional examinations, which she passed with flying colors. She was just six years old when she was promoted. She became the youngest in her class and the first to ever get to grade ten at such age without failing or repeating an examination. The promotion earned her a new name in her class, "Cute brain." Nevertheless, success doesn't only attract new friends. It attracts new responsibilities too, and they could sometimes be frustrating and highly demanding.
Maria made lots of lovely friends. She is also very social and friendly. Every moment with her makes you forget all your sorrows and pains because she has a unique way of making everyone happy. Teachers love talking to her, and her seniors find her useful in solving some of their assignments.
At the age of ten, Maria has thoroughly studied some university grade books with a remarkable understanding of everything they contain. Maria's mum loves taking her to the hospital with her during her school vacation. During one of her visits, she did something extraordinary. A patient was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. It looked like he wasn't going to make it because his case looks critical.
The situation called for one of the hospital's best surgeon's attention, but he wasn't around. Maria noticed the look on the available surgeon's face as he moved towards the operating theater room.
She felt pity for the patient and doesn't want him to die, so she drew closer to the surgeon amidst the chaos and told him what to do when he starts operating on the patient.
Although the surgeon heard her, he didn't pay much attention because of her age and the rush. However, when he began operating on the patient, things look more complicated than he anticipated.
The fantastic thing about the scenario was that he could recall what Maria told him, and it looked like if he should try doing what the little girl advised, he could save the girl's life.
"Will the man be fine?" Maria asked her mother as they prepared to go home since her work for the day was over. The surgeon now had the choice of either doing what Maria suggested before things get out of hand or continuing with his method, hoping it would save the patient's life.
Maria's mother was emotional to see her daughter caring for someone she doesn't know from anywhere on the planet. It touched her so much that she felt blessed to have Maria in her life. She said encouraging words to her and told her everything would be okay because the surgeon won't let him die.
Maria woke up earlier than anyone in the house the next morning because she wants to follow her mother to the hospital again to confirm the patient's state, and she also wants to visit the children's ward where she has made lots of friends. She goes to the department with cookies for sick children always.
The surgeon that did the operation couldn't hide his excitement when he saw Maria the next day. He ran to her with arms wide open, hugged and carried her. "You, my friend, you are a genius. You are a lifesaver." His words lightened Maria's mood because she already knew the patient made it from the doctor's expression. "Mrs. Robert, what you have here is a super child; always treat her right." Said the surgeon has he left for his office.
For some reason, Mrs. Robert couldn't explain why the surgeon would refer to her as a super child since she didn't witness her saying anything to the surgeon. She assumed she must have answered some problematic questions again, so she didn't bother about it. Maria left for the children's ward to share some cookies like she does all the time without much understanding of her heroic actions that saved a dying man's life. Her actions were seen as a child genius's action rather than a strange human with supernatural powers that could help save the world and make it a better place for everyone.
